National Environment Agency reassures residents after reports of burning odors over the past two days.
SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency (NEA) announced on Wednesday night (Jan 12) that the “burning smells” reported in eastern Singapore over the last two days are not associated with any local industrial incidents or hotspots in the area.
In response to inquiries from CNA, the NEA stated it received reports regarding the “burning smells” on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents from areas including East Coast, Bedok, Loyang, and Tampines reported experiencing these odors during that period.
According to the NEA, their investigations found no local industrial incidents that could account for the smell. The Singapore Civil Defence Force also confirmed that they did not respond to any open burning incidents in the eastern region. Additionally, the agency noted that no hotspots were detected nearby.
Regarding air quality, the NEA reported that “the 1-hour PM2.5 concentration readings have remained within the normal range (Band I), and 24-hour PSI levels have been categorized as ‘Good’ to ‘Moderate’.”
While the NEA has not received any further reports about the burning smell since Wednesday afternoon, they assured the public that they will continue to monitor the situation closely.
