Celebrating a Night of Surprises and Emotional Moments
The Star Media Awards on Sunday (April 24) was a glamorous affair filled with unexpected wins and heartfelt moments. Among the standout winners, Lin Meijiao received the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in My Star Bride, while her daughter, Chantalle Ng, was honored as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes.
My Star Bride also took home accolades for Best Drama Serial and Best Theme Song. Lin, 58, who portrays a disapproving mother-in-law in the series, became emotional during her acceptance speech, dedicating her win to her late mother, who passed away in September 2021 at the age of 80.
Chantalle expressed her pride in her mother’s achievement, stating, “I really want to congratulate my mum. I was more moved than if I had gotten an award. I really love her and feel so proud of her. I believe she’s also proud of me.”
The moment Lin won was truly memorable, with both Chantalle and co-star Cynthia Koh shedding tears of joy. It was touching to see Koh, who was also nominated for the same award, cheering for Lin.
Brandon Wong was recognized for his versatility, earning the title of Most Hated Villain in the newly introduced My Pick! category. He also claimed the 10th spot in the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes, remarking on his long wait for recognition: “I’m worried that I’ll have to wait another 27 years for my second award.”
The event also saw Chen Hanwei honored with the Best Actor award for Recipe of Life, while Huang Biren won Best Actress for the same series.
Other notable winners included Felicia Chin, who secured the 10th spot among the Most Popular Female Artistes after facing disappointment the previous year.
