Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, and Others: WP Demonstrates Unity in House Visits at Compassvale (Raeesah Khan’s Former Constituency)

The Workers’ Party rallies together to reconnect with residents after recent controversies.

The Workers’ Party (WP) recently demonstrated a strong show of unity and resilience following the scandal involving former Member of Parliament Raeesah Khan. On Tuesday night, the WP deployed its key leaders—including Secretary-General and Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh, party chair Sylvia Lim, and vice chair Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap—as part of their ongoing initiative to engage with residents in Compassvale.

Compassvale was previously represented by Khan, who resigned on November 30, 2021, after admitting to lying multiple times in Parliament. The investigation into her false statements also implicated WP leadership, with the Committee of Privileges finding that she acted under their direction. Following Khan’s resignation, He Ting Ru, MP for Sengkang GRC and chair of the Sengkang Town Council, assured residents at a December 2 press conference that they would continue to receive support.

During the house visits on May 24, the WP MPs reaffirmed their commitment to the residents. Alongside the leadership team and other Sengkang GRC MPs—Associate Professor Jamus Lim and Louis Chua—the visit also included Aljunied GRC MPs Leon Perera and Gerald Giam, as well as Dennis Tan, MP for Hougang SMC, along with a large group of volunteers.

“One of the core principles that the Workers’ Party upholds is our collective responsibility as Singaporeans to care for one another,” a Facebook post from the Sengkang GRC account stated. “We emphasize that those who are more fortunate should play a greater role in uplifting the less fortunate in our society. As a party, we also believe in sharing the burden of our political commitments collectively. This was evident tonight as our MPs gathered in Sengkang GRC for the first of many ongoing visits to households in Compassvale.”

The post highlighted that support from across all divisions allowed them to gather valuable feedback, enabling them to better understand the cares, concerns, and challenges faced by Singaporean families. This insight, they noted, would enhance their representation of the community.

In sharing the post, Pritam Singh expressed gratitude for the conversations he and his team had with residents, looking forward to future engagements. “I smiled to see a homemade sign above the doorbell of one unit that read, ‘We are not selling or renting our unit! Thank you!’ After speaking with residents in the block throughout the evening, it became clear why!”

Mr. Singh encouraged residents to reach out to the Sengkang Town Council, their resident MPs, or Mr. Manap, who serves in an advisory capacity, regarding any issues or concerns. “You can also write to any of the WP MPs, and we will ensure your feedback reaches our Sengkang colleagues,” he added.
