Fire Erupts on Boat at Keppel Bay, Contained After One Hour: SCDF

Swift Response from Firefighters Prevents Further Damage

SINGAPORE: A fire broke out on a boat docked at Marina at Keppel Bay on Monday morning (May 30), with flames engulfing the vessel for approximately one hour before being brought under control.

Videos shared with CNA captured the dramatic scene, showing flames leaping from the boat and a thick column of black smoke rising into the sky.

Ray, a witness who wished to remain anonymous, recounted his experience of spotting the fire while traveling to Sentosa via cable car. “I happened to look out the cable car window when I noticed the smoke,” he said.

Content creator Jaren Koh, who lives in the Harbourfront area, first noticed the smoke from his home. He later ventured out to investigate the situation and found the boat ablaze. Koh provided videos showing firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) working alongside others to combat the fire.

According to the SCDF, they were alerted to the incident around 11:30 AM at 2 Keppel Bay Vista. “Upon arrival, the fire was seen raging from a vessel berthed at a pier,” the SCDF stated in a Facebook post. Firefighters, supported by the staff on-site, quickly deployed three water jets and three hosereels from the pier to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby vessels.

A vessel from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) also joined the firefighting efforts. Photos from the scene depicted the charred remains of the boat surrounded by firefighting foam as crews worked diligently to manage the situation.

The SCDF confirmed that the fire was extinguished within an hour, utilizing two water jets, two foam jets, and a water monitor from the MPA vessel. While damping down operations were still underway, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
