Pritam Singh Raises Awareness of Dementia Caregivers as Cases Surge by 2030

The Workers’ Party chief emphasizes the importance of supporting families facing cognitive disabilities in Singapore.

SINGAPORE — Pritam Singh, the Workers’ Party chief, addressed the challenges of aging and dementia in a recent Facebook post, highlighting the impending reality for many families in Singapore.
He noted, “The reality of Singapore’s aging population is that by 2030, it is estimated one in four people will be over 65 years old. Consequently, the number of families caring for a loved one with cognitive disabilities, such as dementia, will increase.”

Mr. Singh expressed admiration for the dedication of caregivers, stating, “Every so often, we encounter families with a member living with cognitive disabilities. Many of these caregivers inspire us with their unwavering dedication and selflessness. However, caregiving can also take a toll on their well-being.”

To promote awareness of dementia and support caregivers, Mr. Singh announced a giveaway of concert tickets for the “LIVING WITH LUCY” jukebox musical, scheduled for February 24 and 25, 2023.
He encouraged caregivers to prioritize self-care, stating, “If you are a caregiver for someone with cognitive disabilities, please take some time for yourself when you can. I have concert tickets available for those who care for individuals with dementia. Reach out for a pair while tickets last!” Interested individuals may contact Mr. Singh via email at secretary@leaderoftheopposition.sg.

He further explained that this initiative aims to provide both family members and volunteers with a deeper understanding of the mindset of individuals living with dementia and to enhance the skills of caregivers.
The program is set to launch this year, organized by the Family Business Network (FBN) Asia and the Inner Wheel Club of Singapore West, in collaboration with The Mind Science Centre (MSC) NUHS.
