PM Lee Directs Iswaran’s Leave of Absence During Anti-Graft Inquiry
SINGAPORE: Transport Minister S Iswaran is assisting the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) in an investigation following the discovery of a case by the anti-graft agency. CPIB has not disclosed details regarding the investigation, which involves multiple individuals, including Mr. Iswaran.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who was briefed by CPIB Director Denis Tang, gave his approval on July 6 to proceed with the formal investigation, which began on July 11. In response, Mr. Iswaran has been instructed to take a leave of absence until the investigation concludes. Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat will temporarily assume responsibilities as Acting Minister for Transport, while other political officeholders will cover Mr. Iswaran’s trade portfolio at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong noted that fellow Members of Parliament in West Coast GRC will assist in Mr. Iswaran’s constituency duties during his leave. CPIB emphasized Singapore’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and reaffirmed its commitment to a thorough and unbiased investigation.
