PM Lee: Government to Address Recent High-Profile Scandals with Transparency

PM Lee Confirms No Plans for an Early Election Amid PAP Issues

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong affirmed that the People’s Action Party (PAP) will address recent controversies involving its Members of Parliament with transparency and rigor. Responding to public concerns about a potential slip in PAP standards, Mr. Lee emphasized that “no system is infallible,” and that when issues arise, they must be dealt with openly.

Mr. Lee’s comments come amid several high-profile incidents, including the resignation of Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin and Tampines MP Cheng Li Hui due to an inappropriate relationship and Transport Minister S Iswaran’s involvement in a Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) probe. He also referenced earlier questions regarding the rental of state properties on Ridout Road by Ministers K Shanmugam and Vivian Balakrishnan, who were cleared of wrongdoing after a CPIB and parliamentary investigation.

While addressing these issues, Mr. Lee clarified that he has no plans to call an early election, indicating that PAP’s focus remains on maintaining rigorous standards within its ranks and restoring public confidence.
