Leon Perera and Nicole Seah Resign from Workers’ Party and Parliament

WP Leaders Confirm Resignations Following Admission of Inappropriate Relationship

SINGAPORE: The Workers’ Party announced on Wednesday (Jul 19) that Aljunied GRC MP Leon Perera and senior party member Nicole Seah have resigned from their party and parliamentary positions. The decision followed a video circulated online, suggesting an “inappropriate exchange” between the two.

WP Chief Pritam Singh revealed that initial concerns about their relationship arose in late 2020 when Perera’s driver reported that the pair were seen frequenting hotels and behaving intimately. Both Perera and Seah initially denied the allegations when questioned. However, after the video surfaced on July 17, both admitted to having had an affair that began in 2020 but has since ended.

Perera, first elected as an NCMP in 2015 and later an Aljunied GRC MP, resigned from the WP and his seat in Parliament on July 18. Seah, who joined the WP in 2015 after her initial rise in politics with the Reform Party and National Solidarity Party, also stepped down. Party leaders, including Singh, Sylvia Lim, Faisal Manap, and Gerald Giam, addressed the press conference.

The future political paths of Perera and Seah remain uncertain as they step back from the Workers’ Party.
