The prominent lawyer was seen engaging with residents and distributing party newsletters alongside key Workers’ Party leaders.
SINGAPORE: Senior Counsel Harpreet Singh of the Supreme Court of Singapore has been spotted once again with members of The Workers’ Party (WP), this time wearing the party’s signature light blue uniform. His appearances over the weekend have fueled speculation about his potential candidacy in the next General Election (GE).
Mr. Singh was first seen during a WP walkabout at Marine Parade in August. However, his latest outings on Saturday (Sept 23) and Sunday (Sept 24) have drawn more attention due to his choice of attire: a light blue polo shirt with the WP logo—a golden hammer in a red circle—prominently displayed under the collar.
On Saturday, Mr. Singh joined the WP team at Lorong G Telok Kurau, Marine Parade. Photos shared by WP member Mr. Fadli Fawzi, who contested in Marine Parade during GE2020, showed Mr. Singh among a group of eight WP members and volunteers in uniform.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Fadli wrote about the day’s outreach:
“The conversations between the residents proved to be as pleasant as the weather. We got the sense that though many of the residents here enjoy their life in the neighbourhood, there is a feeling of concern about their children’s lives, especially with the rising cost of living.
This concern for the next generation is something we all share, regardless of our race or class. I am hopeful that with a more open and democratic society, it is something that we can have the necessary conversations about to come together as a country.”
The following day, Mr. Singh was seen at Bedok Market distributing The Hammer, WP’s newsletter, alongside prominent party figures, including secretary-general and Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh, chair Sylvia Lim, Aljunied GRC MPs Faisal Manap and Gerald Giam, and Sengkang GRC MPs He Ting Ru and Louis Chua.
WP’s Facebook post on Sept 24 highlighted their interactions with residents despite rainy weather:
“Hello Bedok! In our weekly Hammer Outreach, Team WP met many residents who braved the rainy weather to have their favourite hawker breakfast at the 538 Market (Kaki Bukit, Aljunied GRC) and Blk 216 Bedok North St 1 Market (East Coast GRC). Many thanks for the warm reception and words of encouragement!”
With these appearances, particularly in WP uniform, speculation continues to grow about whether Mr. Harpreet Singh will officially join the party’s slate of candidates for the next GE.
