Singaporeans Urge 4G Leaders to Preserve Nation’s International Influence

A PAP survey highlights public expectations for Singapore’s next generation of leaders to sustain global alliances and influence.

SINGAPORE: A recent People’s Action Party (PAP) policy survey involving 1,300 respondents reveals that Singaporeans place significant importance on the fourth-generation (4G) leadership’s ability to maintain the country’s international standing and build alliances with like-minded nations.

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, who chairs the PAP, addressed these findings during the third dialogue commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.

Mr. Heng emphasized that while domestic prosperity is fundamental, it must be coupled with active engagement on the global stage. He called for an outward-looking mindset, urging Singaporeans to draw inspiration from international best practices and contribute meaningfully to the global community.

“Singapore must remain open to those who share our values and can contribute to the nation’s progress,” he stated, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in shaping the country’s future.

As the nation prepares for a leadership transition, the survey offers valuable insights into the expectations Singaporeans hold for the next generation of leaders. It underscores the need for the 4G leadership to balance domestic progress with proactive participation in global affairs, ensuring Singapore remains a relevant and influential player on the world stage.
