Dozens of HDB Blocks Across Singapore to Receive S$95 Million Upgrade

23 neighbourhoods to benefit from extensive upgrades under Neighbourhood Renewal Programme.

SINGAPORE: In a bid to enhance public housing precincts, 23 upgrading projects across Singapore have been announced under the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP), with over S$95 million allocated for the improvements.
These projects will involve several HDB blocks in areas like Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, Nee Soon, Clementi, Choa Chu Kang, and Pasir Ris, directly benefiting more than 15,600 households.
Launched in August 2007, the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme focuses on upgrading older HDB blocks built up to 1995. Improvements will vary based on resident feedback and could include new playgrounds, fitness corners, covered walkways, drop-off porches, and additional seating at void decks.
“The improvements for each precinct are designed to reflect the residents’ preferences and the features they wish to see in their community,” said the Housing and Development Board (HDB).
All of the projects will be fully funded by the government, with town councils managing the implementation, selecting design consultants, and overseeing progress.
In response to rising costs, the government will provide a higher budget allocation for the latest batch of upgrades, with the funding raised from S$4,700 to S$6,100 per flat for both new and ongoing projects.
Since the NRP’s inception, over S$1.5 billion has been allocated to fund 203 projects, and moving forward, the programme will expand to include blocks built up to 1999, benefitting more than 100,000 additional flats.
Details on engagement sessions to gather input from residents on desired improvements will be shared in the coming months by local advisers and town councils.
