Amos Yee Returns to Prison for Parole Violation, Release Delayed to 2026

The registered sex offender is now held in a maximum-security prison in Illinois.

SINGAPORE: Amos Yee, a 25-year-old Singaporean, has been sent back to prison in the United States after violating his parole conditions, according to US authorities on Nov 9. Prison records indicate that Yee may remain incarcerated until October 2026, extending his time in custody by three years.

Yee was readmitted under the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections on Nov 7 and is currently held at the Stateville Correctional Center, a maximum-security facility in Crest Hill, Illinois. This comes just one month after his release on parole, marking the halfway point of his six-year sentence for grooming a teenage girl online and soliciting explicit photos.

While the Illinois Department of Corrections has not disclosed details of the parole violation, they confirmed the breach without elaboration. Yee’s projected parole and discharge dates are now set for Oct 8, 2026.

Prior Convictions
Yee’s original sentence was handed down on Dec 3, 2021, after he pled guilty to charges of grooming and possessing child pornography. Sixteen other charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement. His sentence was retroactively applied to October 2020, the date of his arrest.

During his brief parole period, Yee resided in Waukegan, Illinois, where he was registered as a sex offender.

This is not the first time Yee has faced legal consequences. In 2015, he was imprisoned in Singapore for wounding religious feelings through inflammatory remarks about Christians. The following year, he was jailed again for similar comments targeting both Christians and Muslims.

Yee’s repeated legal troubles continue to draw public attention, raising questions about his rehabilitation and future prospects.
