Driver Criticised for ‘Irresponsible’ Parking of Mercedes in Singapore

A social media post sparks debate over the lack of consideration shown by a driver in a crowded car park.

A Mercedes driver in Singapore has faced backlash after their “irresponsible” parking was shared online in a complaint group on January 26. The post, which was made by Facebook user Gan Gan, showed the luxury car occupying two parking spaces at the National Gallery on a particularly busy day. Many users in the group were quick to criticise the driver for showing a lack of consideration for other parkers.

“Cars are getting wider, but car parks have remained the same,” one user commented, highlighting the growing issue of larger vehicles struggling to fit into standard parking spaces. Others suggested the status of driving a luxury car like a Mercedes might have influenced the driver’s thoughtlessness. One commenter pointed out, “He is driving a BIG Merc, so of course, he thinks it’s fine to take up two spaces. It’s all about his convenience, not about others.”

Some users called for stricter action from authorities. “LTA must do something about this,” one user wrote. “Suspend the driver’s licence for three months and have them retake the driving test.” Another user noted that such incidents seem common, questioning, “Do our car parks not have intelligent systems to prevent this kind of behaviour before the driver even exits the vehicle?”

However, one commenter offered a more lenient explanation, saying, “Maybe it was unintentional. Perhaps the driver is new to driving.”

The discussion has sparked debate on social media about the need for greater awareness and responsibility when it comes to parking, particularly in busy, public spaces.
