“Parking fee anomaly leaves netizen baffled as he pays exorbitant rate for a brief stay.”
SINGAPORE: A motorist took to social media to express disbelief after being charged a staggering $50 for parking just 14 minutes at Golden Mile Tower.
“Most expensive parking in Singapore. $50 for 14 minutes in Golden Mile Tower. #LHN,” wrote Frank Ly on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group on Aug 14 (Sunday).
Mr. Ly shared side-by-side images of the parking rates displayed at the venue and the payment receipt, which suggested a possible system error.
Discrepancy in Charges
According to the parking rate sign, Golden Mile Tower charges $2.82 per hour between 7 am and 7 pm daily and $2.31 per hour between 7 pm and 7 am.
However, the receipt told a different story. It indicated Mr. Ly entered the car park at 13:19:43 on Aug 13 and exited at 13:33:13, with a total parking time of 14 minutes. Despite the short stay, he was charged $50 (inclusive of GST).
Adding to his frustration, the receipt showed his card balance was left at $5.47, and the words “HAVE A NICE DAY” were printed across the bottom.
Public Reaction
Commenters on Mr. Ly’s post expressed confusion over the excessive charge. Many speculated that a system malfunction could be responsible and encouraged him to report the issue to request a refund.
Ongoing Investigation
The Independent Singapore reached out to both Mr. Ly and Golden Mile Tower for comments. Golden Mile Tower referred inquiries to LHN Parking, the company managing the car park, for further clarification.
