Heavy traffic delays both vehicles and pedestrians at Singapore-Malaysia border as holiday travel begins.
SINGAPORE: Singaporeans traveling to Malaysia for the Good Friday-Easter weekend encountered a massive 3.5-hour traffic jam along the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints on Thursday evening (April 6). Heavy congestion began around 7 p.m., as travelers headed across the border right after work.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) alerted motorists to expect delays at both checkpoints, advising them to factor in extra travel time. Pedestrians also faced long queues, with thousands filling the customs halls.
Checkpoint.sg, an app tracking border traffic, reported a wait time of 150 to 220 minutes at Woodlands Checkpoint and 135 to 200 minutes at Tuas. Around 8:20 p.m., ICA reminded travelers to check traffic conditions before setting off and to stay updated via ICA’s Facebook page.
