Grab to Acquire Trans-cab, Singapore’s Third-Largest Taxi Operator

Deal Includes Fleet, Maintenance, and Fuel Operations with Integration to Grab’s Platform

SINGAPORE: Grab announced its acquisition of Trans-cab, Singapore’s third-largest taxi operator, which has a fleet of over 2,500 vehicles. The deal, expected to complete by Q4 2023, will see Grab Rentals acquire 100% of Trans-cab’s shares, including its taxi and car rental business, maintenance workshops, and fuel pump operations.

The acquisition comes as consumer behavior increasingly favors digital solutions, with Trans-cab’s General Manager Jasmine Tan expressing confidence that Grab will support the livelihoods of Trans-cab drivers.

Grab plans to roll out an integrated app to manage bookings and earnings for Trans-cab drivers, connecting them to both Grab’s platform and Trans-cab’s existing call center. Trans-cab drivers joining Grab will also receive benefits, including accident insurance. For passengers, the acquisition means access to a larger driver pool and potentially faster ride availability.

This acquisition follows the recent Strides Taxi and Premier Taxis merger, making ComfortDelGro the largest taxi operator in Singapore with approximately 8,700 taxis.
