Police Probe Assault at Admiralty Secondary School as Victim’s Family Expresses Concern
On January 7, 2024, a 12-year-old student at Admiralty Secondary School in Singapore was reportedly assaulted by a classmate, who allegedly struck him on the head with a water bottle, resulting in a 4cm wound. The injured boy was swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with both the student accused of the assault and the school cooperating in the ongoing inquiry. The situation came to light when the boy’s uncle, Jwewny Goh, shared a Facebook post detailing the attack. Goh explained that, on the fourth day of his nephew’s school year, the family was informed by the school that the boy had sustained a “minor cut,” but an ambulance had been dispatched due to the nature of the injury.
Further details revealed that the cut on the boy’s head measured 4 to 5 cm in length and was 7 to 8 mm deep, requiring specialist stitches. The family was informed that additional tests, including a CT scan, might be necessary. However, due to the boy’s young age, doctors would need to wait 72 hours before conducting a full evaluation to assess any potential risks.
In a separate account, the boy stated that he had been struck multiple times on the head with a metal water bottle. However, a report from Mothership clarified that the bottle involved was actually made of plastic, not metal.
Goh expressed disappointment with how the school had handled the incident, though he acknowledged that the school’s discipline master, Kenny Wang, had shown empathy and taken the matter seriously. “No parent should have to see their child suffer such trauma, especially in a place meant to be safe,” he said in his post.
In an update on January 8, Goh informed the public that his nephew had been discharged from the hospital and given medical leave until January 14 for further evaluation. He also voiced concern about the emotional impact the incident had on his nephew.
The school responded, stating that it was closely monitoring the wellbeing of the injured student and would take the appropriate disciplinary measures against the other student involved in the incident. It also urged the public to remain respectful when communicating with school staff amidst the ongoing investigation.
