Low Thia Khiang Joins Workers’ Party Outreach in Aljunied GRC Amidst Rainy Weather

The former party chief joins fellow MPs for community engagement at Hainanese Village market.

Despite the rainy weather, the spirit of community engagement remained high as former Workers’ Party chief Low Thia Khiang participated in outreach activities with Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC members of parliament at the Hainanese Village market and food centre.
In a strong display of unity, Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh, along with fellow parliamentarians Sylvia Lim, Faisal Abdul Manap, Leon Pereira, Gerald Giam, and Dennis Tan, were present to promote the party’s newsletter, The Hammer.

“Although it was a rainy morning, Team Workers’ Party gathered once again for Hammer outreach at Hainan market in the Paya Lebar division of Aljunied GRC, represented by MP Sylvia Lim,” the Workers’ Party posted on their Facebook page.
The front page of the newsletter featured an article titled, “Why the GST Hike is Not Necessary,” reflecting a stance the party had previously articulated in Parliament by Pritam Singh.
“Supply chain disruptions are significantly affecting people’s finances. There is genuine concern that the announcement to increase the GST will trigger widespread price hikes,” stated the Leader of the Opposition.

This sentiment was echoed by Sengkang GRC MP Jamus Lim, who argued that the GST increase is particularly ill-timed, as it risks exacerbating already high inflation.
“While the future trajectory of inflation is uncertain—economists notoriously struggle to predict price movements, often to a degree that would embarrass a weather forecaster—it wouldn’t be surprising if inflation remains elevated through the year-end,” Jamus remarked during the Budget 2022 debate.
“Supply chain issues have not resolved as quickly as anticipated. Energy prices remain high and could increase further due to geopolitical tensions and the likelihood of global sanctions.”
The Workers’ Party also shared a video on their TikTok account, thehammertok, showcasing Sylvia interacting with residents who were inquiring about Pritam’s presence during the walkabout.
