Joint Operation Highlights the Importance of Road Safety and Compliance Among Motorists
In a joint operation across the island, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) identified almost 200 errant motorists through spot checks.
During the 16-hour operation, the agencies discovered vehicles that appeared to have undergone illegal exhaust modifications, installed non-compliant window tinting, and used improper license plates, as noted by the LTA in a Facebook post on May 21.
Several overloaded vehicles were also detected. “Besides being unsafe, such practices accelerate the wear and tear of our road infrastructure,” the LTA emphasized. It reminded the public to avoid illegally modifying vehicles, as these actions can endanger both the driver and other road users.
Netizens responded to the post, expressing gratitude for the authorities’ efforts and urging for more regular enforcement operations.
“LTA and SPF, please conduct enforcement on a monthly basis. Once a month would be sufficient. The fines collected can be used to enhance our roads’ safety,” suggested Facebook user Prem Pandey.
“Please ensure this combined enforcement occurs frequently. There are too many self-entitled road users out there,” added netizen Abdul Hamid Abdul Karim.
Others shared suggestions regarding errant motorists, including those with small license plates or heavy vehicles.
“Focus on heavy vehicles, especially those from the construction industry,” urged Facebook user Anton Chia. “Overloading and spilling rocks onto roads every time they make sharp turns at high speeds poses a danger. Additionally, they hog lanes 1 and 2.”
Facebook user Frankie Chiuh commented, “To LTA: Please explain why fleet owners were not held accountable when their fleets broke rules. Given the size of their trucks, they pose an extra danger to other road users. I commend your actions but hope more can be accomplished.”
