Man Arrested in Singapore for Stealing 500 Pokémon Cards

The 22-year-old faces theft and fraudulent possession charges after being linked to multiple shoplifting incidents.

SINGAPORE: A 22-year-old man was arrested by the Singapore Police Force after allegedly stealing approximately 500 Pokémon cards from shops in Paya Lebar and Clementi.

The man is set to be charged with theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871 and fraudulent possession of property under Section 35(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act 1906.

Theft Reports and Investigation
Police began investigating in May when several reports of stolen Pokémon card boxes emerged from affected shops. On May 9, a shopkeeper called the authorities after spotting the suspected thief revisiting one of the targeted stores.

Officers discovered an unopened box of Pokémon cards in the man’s possession that did not belong to him. Further investigations, aided by CCTV footage, linked the suspect to three other thefts occurring on May 2, May 4, and May 8.

Seized Evidence
Police confiscated about 500 Pokémon cards as case exhibits. In a Facebook post, they warned of the severe penalties for theft in a dwelling, which include up to seven years of imprisonment and a potential fine.

The man will face charges in court on Aug 8.
