From softball pitches in Singapore to professional baseball in Japan, Eleazar Ng is chasing a dream for himself and his country.
Eleazar Ng’s journey from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) to the professional baseball fields of Japan is anything but ordinary. At 24, he signed a contract with the Saga Indonesia Dreams in Ureshino, Japan—a team comprising top players from Southeast and South Asia. Driven by ambition and a vision to grow Singapore’s baseball scene, Eleazar made the bold leap to follow his passion.
A Humble Start
Eleazar’s love for the game began at age seven, playing softball at Maris Stella High School. Encouraged by his three older sisters, he continued to develop his skills, eventually using softball as a pathway to Catholic High through the Direct School Admission program.
Though initially a habit, softball became a passion during his secondary school years, leading him to join Singapore’s Under-18 national team. A chance to try out for Singapore’s men’s baseball squad introduced him to the challenges of the full-sized baseball field and the physical demands of the sport.
A Life-Changing Decision
In 2023, after leading Singapore to a historic 10-0 victory over Thailand at the East Asian Cup, Eleazar’s talent caught the eye of the Saga Indonesia Dreams coach. The opportunity to play in Japan was tempting, but it meant leaving the security of a stable RSAF job and a coveted Build-to-Order (BTO) flat he had secured with his girlfriend.
With the encouragement of his sisters and girlfriend, Eleazar chose to pursue his dream. In April 2024, he moved to Japan to train with the Saga Indonesia Dreams, becoming the first Singaporean to sign a professional baseball contract.
Life as a Pro Athlete
Training in Japan is rigorous. Eleazar’s day begins at 6 AM with team chores, followed by hours of practice on the field. Despite early struggles adjusting to professional expectations, he found support from his coaches and teammates, which helped him regain confidence.
The team’s camaraderie has been a highlight of his experience. Despite language barriers, the players bond over music and shared ambitions to elevate Southeast Asia’s baseball presence.
Giving Back to the Community
Eleazar has embraced Japan’s community-focused sports culture. From sold-out games to community events where he’s even DJed, he’s inspired by how baseball brings people together—a vision he hopes to bring back to Singapore.
A Vision for Singapore Baseball
Eleazar dreams of creating a pathway for young Singaporeans to pursue professional baseball. He envisions a future with a large baseball stadium, weekend family outings, and a thriving baseball community.
“Singapore, I’ll be back soon,” Eleazar says. “I’ll come back a better athlete, coach, and with ideas to pitch.”
