Taiwanese singer Miu Chu, cherished for her joyful spirit and uplifting music, passed away on July 3 at the age of 40 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news through a heartfelt statement on her Facebook page, revealing that she “left us peacefully on July 3.”
“Thank you all for your concern. Chu, who was always full of laughter and brought positive energy to those around her through her music, left us peacefully on July 3,” her family shared, requesting privacy during their time of mourning. They also announced that details regarding her memorial service would be shared in the future.
Miu Chu had been fighting breast cancer since her diagnosis in early 2021. Initially, she revealed that she was undergoing treatment and that her condition was stable. However, she withdrew from the public eye earlier this year, with her last social media post on April 23, where she acknowledged Acute Myeloid Leukemia Awareness Day on April 21.
Rising to fame after winning the third season of the Super Idol contest in 2009, Miu Chu captured hearts with her music, notably the theme song “Ten Million Times Tears” for the Taiwanese drama series Love Around, which aired on SET TV in 2013. Another of her popular tracks, “Power of Existence,” served as the opening theme for the 2012 South Korean drama Wild Romance.
Following her passing, condolences poured in from notable figures, including Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-Che and Taiwanese TV talk show host Li Jing. “Thank you, Miu. There is no more pain in heaven. Wishing you a good journey,” Huang expressed on his Facebook page. Li shared her sorrow on social media, saying, “My baby Miu, tears cannot stop flowing. You are a sunshine angel, and we all love you.”
Miu Chu last graced the stage at the Tainan Summer Music Festival last year, leaving behind a legacy of love and positivity that will be remembered by many.
