Motorist’s Frightening Encounter Highlights Importance of Locked Car Doors

Shaken driver urges others to stay vigilant after an unsettling incident at a traffic junction.

A driver has warned fellow motorists to always keep their car doors locked following a distressing experience at a traffic junction in Toa Payoh.

In a Facebook post on COMPLAINT SINGAPORE on Friday (21 March), Randy Lee recounted an alarming event that took place on Sunday afternoon. While stationary at a red light, he was startled when a stranger suddenly opened his car door and began shouting at him.

Attempting to stay calm, Mr Lee avoided eye contact and tried to shut the door. However, the man forcefully held onto it, preventing him from doing so. “I didn’t react to his shouting and focused on closing my door,” he wrote.

After a tense few moments, the stranger loosened his grip, allowing Mr Lee to secure the door before it could be opened again. Anxiously waiting for the traffic light to change, he admitted that the ordeal left him shaken. “This was terrifying. From now on, I will always ensure my doors are locked while driving,” he shared.

To alert others, he included two photos in his post showing the individual returning to a grey sedan with a Singapore licence plate. His warning quickly gained attention, being shared multiple times and sparking discussions in the comments.

Many online users debated the possible reasons behind the other motorist’s outburst. Some speculated that an altercation may have occurred beforehand, while others pointed out that such incidents can happen unexpectedly and without provocation.

“No matter the reason, aggressive behaviour like this is unacceptable. Mature individuals handle disputes privately, not by causing a public scene,” one commenter wrote.

Others supported Mr Lee’s advice, agreeing that keeping car doors locked is a crucial safety measure. Some even suggested installing automatic locking systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
