Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat predicts full recovery of passenger traffic at Changi Airport by mid-2024.
SINGAPORE: Singapore’s aviation sector is poised for significant growth, with over 4,300 jobs opening up in 2024 as passenger traffic at Changi Airport is expected to recover fully by the first half of the year. Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat shared the optimistic outlook at the OneAviation Careers Fair on Friday (Aug 4).
The two-day event, held at the Suntec City Convention Centre, features about 40 exhibitors, including industry giants like Airbus, Changi Airport Group, and Rolls-Royce Singapore. With over 1,700 roles available across operations, engineering, and service, walk-in interviews are being conducted to expedite recruitment.
Reflecting on the sector’s progress, Mr. Chee noted that just a year ago, the aviation industry was rebuilding its workforce after losing about a third of its pre-COVID employees. Today, staffing levels are at 95% of pre-pandemic figures, while passenger traffic has risen to 90% of pre-COVID volumes.
“This recovery would not have been possible without the collective efforts of the OneAviation community,” Mr. Chee said, expressing confidence that Changi Airport will see full recovery by mid-2024 or earlier.
