Singapore Named Best Asian City for Expats in 2024 Index

Cleanliness, safety, and affordability make Singapore a top choice for expatriates.

SINGAPORE: Singapore has been ranked the best Asian city for expatriates in the 2024 index by Preply. With a thriving population of 1.23 million expats and migrant workers, Singapore earned the prestigious spot as the third best city for expats globally.

Preply’s assessment highlighted key factors that contribute to Singapore’s appeal, including its world-renowned cleanliness, high safety ratings, and vibrant cultural scene. The city-state’s rich multicultural environment and its status as an English-speaking hub make it an attractive destination for expats from all corners of the world.

Ang Mo Kio emerged as the most affordable neighborhood in Singapore for expat living, where residents spend just 23% of their income on rent. A one-bedroom condo in Ang Mo Kio averages US$1,268, while the area boasts an average household income of US$5,499 per month.

On the other end of the spectrum, Toa Payoh is the most expensive area, with residents dedicating a whopping 91% of their monthly income towards rent for a one-bedroom condo. Other neighborhoods such as Sembawang, Yishun, Punggol, and Choa Chu Kang offer more affordable living options with a range of amenities suited to expatriates.

The cost of living in Singapore is estimated at $4,355 per month, with expats enjoying a disposable income of about $4,980, according to Preply’s data.

Additionally, Singapore’s safety score of 77 out of 100 and its reputation for cleanliness further bolster its position as a top destination for expatriates. The city’s plethora of attractions, such as the iconic Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay, along with its multicultural vibrancy, continues to make it a prime location for global talent.
