Pritam Singh Speaks on Leon Perera and Nicole Seah’s Exit Amid a Political Storm
SINGAPORE: Amid a stormy political week, the Workers’ Party (WP) held a press conference to address the resignations of Aljunied GRC MP Leon Perera and senior WP member Nicole Seah. Their exit came after a video surfaced online suggesting an inappropriate relationship, which both admitted to having since the 2020 General Election.
WP Chief Pritam Singh detailed the timeline, noting that Perera’s driver had initially raised suspicions in 2020, which Perera and Seah had denied. It was only when the video circulated on July 17 that both admitted to an affair. They subsequently resigned from WP, and Mr. Singh confirmed that the party’s other Aljunied MPs would ensure residents’ needs continue to be met.
During the Q&A, Mr. Singh was asked about the coincidental timing of this scandal with recent resignations in the ruling party. He remarked on the “uncanny coincidence,” leaving observers to draw their own conclusions.
As Singapore’s political scene weathers yet another controversy, WP leaders emphasized their commitment to rebuilding public trust—a test both they and the ruling party will face at the next General Election.
